Introduction

As part of the recruitment process J W Morrison Haulage Contractor collects and processes personal information relating to job applicants. We are committed to being transparent about how we collect and use that information and to meeting our responsibilities under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Personal information that we will we collect as part of the application process

We will collect personal information that we think is relevant to assessing your suitability for employment with us which will include:

  • Your name, address, contact telephone number, email address and date of birth;
  • Details of your entitlement to work in the UK;
  • Details of your qualifications, skills experience, employment history and training courses attended;
  • Information regarding your current level of remuneration and benefit entitlements;
  • Driving licence details;
  • Vehicle accident record;
  • Convictions and licence endorsements;
  • Any medical information that you think is relevant to your application.

We will collect this information through our application form and interview and assessment process. We may also collect personal information about you from third parties, such as references supplied by former employers or licence details from the DVLA online licence checking system. We will ask for your consent before we seek information from third parties.

Why do we process your personal information?

We need to process your personal information to consider you for employment and if appropriate to enter into an employment contract with you. We may need to process your personal information to carry out checks with third parties on your eligibility to work in the UK or to check your driver’s licence or for a reference. We have a legitimate business interest in processing personal information during the recruitment process and for record keeping.

Processing personal information from job applicants allows us to manage the recruitment process, assess a candidate’s suitability for employment and meet our legal responsibilities.

Who has access to your personal information?

Your personal information may be shared with managers within the business for the purpose of considering your application. It will not be shared with anyone who is not involved in the recruitment process. We will not share your data with third parties unless your application is successful, and we make you a job offer. We will ask for your consent before we obtain references from previous employers or carry out driving licence checks.

Storing your personal information

We take security of personal information seriously and have policies in place to ensure that we comply with the GDPR. If your application is unsuccessful or we do not have any vacancies at the time you submit your application, we will keep your personal information on file in case there are future employment opportunities for which you may be suited. We will destroy your personal information after 6 months if no suitable opportunities have arisen during this time. You are free to ask us not to keep your personal information at any time. If you do not want to provide your personal information we may not be able to process your application properly or at all.

Your rights

You have certain rights, prescribed by the GDPR, in relation to the processing of your personal information, such as rights to request access, rectification or deletion of your personal data.
